Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans.
One of my oldest friends (a former college roommate) got married this last year. Well, ok it was in 2009, but it was a New Year’s Eve wedding so it counts! It was, without a doubt, one of the best weddings I’ve been to, and one of the best parties I’ll ever attend. She managed to get Cave B Winery at SageCliffe to open up over the holiday, and rent out the amazing bungalows for a cut-rate price. (My friend has a black belt in shopping, and runs several stores despite only being in her early 30s. She is a master at stuff like this.) It was like stepping into a ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’ episode. We had the place all to ourselves – the main lodge, the spa, the restaurant. I did not want to leave.
My memories of the whole week are tinged in candleglow. Whenever I think of it I can hear the clink of wineglasses, the smell of pine trees, and I hear laughter. There was a scavenger hunt in the snow, s’mores-making under a full moon, hotel breakfasts with fresh-made jam, and a hot bath in a deep stone tub. There was also this amazing soup I can still taste…
Wait. Why did I leave?
