(For the past three years, I’ve used Reverb10 prompts for every day of December. It’s a great way to reflect on the year and set goals for the future. I’m not the only one who has held on to a project from 2010. This year I signed up for prompts from Project Reverb.)
Shine. What was the best moment of 2013?
We went out right before it started, and sat down on one of the love-seat loungers that you could only reserve if you paid extra. He had a beer, and I sipped it occasionally. We watched, talking only a little bit, as the sun set over the water. We had been in almost that same spot earlier in the day, full from a fancy brunch, trashy novels in hand, when we spotted whales in migration. Now the water was a bit choppy, which made for a spectacular show. We held each other, truly nestled in each other’s arms. We confessed things in low voices – worries, fears, doubts. But never a doubt about each other or this moment and how right it was. I kissed his temples as he leaned in to me. Slowly, as it got darker, we realized it was time to go into dinner. We got up, holding hands, and walked away.
