(For the past three years, I’ve used Reverb10 prompts for every day of December. It’s a great way to reflect on the year and set goals for the future. I’ve kept my favorite prompts, added a few from other sources, and created my own month of questions.)
Music. What’s your favorite song from 2013?
My favorite song for 2013 is a two way tie. Kind of. Fiona Apple came out with a new album and I love all of it but especially Hot Butter, a fast and layered, almost a capella song at the end of the album. It’s the song I blasted in the car as I drove back from dropping my husband off for his week long hike. It’s fun to sing and will always remind me if that windy, sunny, freeway liberation.
I also have a favorite artist for the year. I discovered her after reading a blog post about media that made the hosts feel ‘witchy.’ I clicked on the links they provided and was overwhelmed by the music I heard on Zoe Keating’s website. She does modern, altered cello numbers and it’s fabulous. Within minutes I had purchased downloads of all her albums. Interestingly enough, we started to watch the Sherlock Homes remake Elementary a little while later and her music is featured prominently. When I’m mentioned that to my husband, he was only moments away from having a new favorite artist, too.
P.S. Last year I wrote this.
