(For the past three years, I’ve used Reverb10 prompts for every day of December. It’s a great way to reflect on the year and set goals for the future. I’ve kept my favorite prompts, added a few from other sources, and created my own month of questions.)
Appreciate. What’s the one thing you have come to appreciate most in the past year?
I am rich.
I didn’t win the lottery. I don’t own five cars. But this year I have tried to pay attention to how incredibly wealthy I am in comparison to the rest of the world. I have a home. I have more than one bathroom. I have options and choices that other people, and especially women, don’t have.
I am ashamed to say that this has not made me get off my butt and do charity work. I have not donated gobs of money – the usual amount, but nothing more – and I have not lifted anyone out of poverty. But I try not to take it for granted. And deep down, something is stirring. All that … noticing … has started to have an impact. I don’t know what that impact is, but by this time next year I might have a clue.
