(For the past four years, I’ve used Reverb10 prompts to give myself a question to answer every day of December. It’s a great way to reflect on the year and set goals for the future. I’ve kept my favorite prompts, added a few from other sources like Project Reverb and created my own month-and-a-bit of questions.)
Wear it Out. What piece of clothing did you wear again and again this year?
I bought an ankle-length linen dress years ago. It was a steal at the thrift store – lined, Banana Republic, not a stain or thread out of place. I was sure I’d get it, hack off a good two feet off the bottom so it would match the two linen dresses I already had. But then it ended up in the back of the closet and I kinda forgot about it. Also, whenever I put it on I felt so nice and so … goddess-y … so I didn’t have the heart to cut anything.
It’s the one thing that works in LA. Most of my clothes don’t. But for whatever reason it’s perfect for this area, this climate, and my new job. It’s super comfy, but I look so glamorous no one can tell it’s the closest thing to pajamas I have. Also, this summer was brutal. It’s only just cooled off here so pants were not an option for a solid three months.
So oddly enough, the dress I thought I’d change turns out to be the one I won’t ever.
(Last year I wrote this.)
