Reverb14: Party

(For the past four years, I’ve used Reverb10 prompts to give myself a question to answer every day of December. It’s a great way to reflect on the year and set goals for the future. I’ve kept my favorite prompts, added a few from other sources like Project Reverband created my own month-and-a-bit of questions.)

Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off this year?

Well, I think it has to be his holiday party. Even before we moved to LA people were telling us about how nuts the parties were. And this was some party. Not fun, exactly, but an experience.

There were likely 3-6 thousand people there. A line to get in. Deals with Lyft and Uber to make sure the parking lot wasn’t overwhelmed.

There was a room full of candy. You could lick the walls or get your picture taken in front of a wall of doughnuts that spelled out the name of the company.

There was an Unclean room where you put on a ‘clean suit’ or ‘bunny suit’ that normally keeps you clean in a sterile environment but instead kept your party outfit clean while you finger-painted.

There were trains driven by Santa Claus. And rickshaws too.

A ball pit. For adults.

Dance floor. Where they threw out light up sticks and a woman kissed me and told me I was beautiful before stumbling away.

A casino. A hookah bar. Pool tables.

A bar on a ‘beach.’ They trucked in sand so that you could sit in a cabana and put your toes in the sand. A swing in a hammock.

I looked amazing. So did he. Me in new shoes. Him in a new suit. It would have made for great pictures, if I’d taken any.

(Last year I wrote this.)
